Hyderabad: 24 visually impaired students get scholarships

Hyderabad: University of Hyderabad (UoH) Vice-Chancellor Prof Podile Appa Rao on Tuesday distributed scholarship cheques to 24 eligible visually impaired students of the university. Scholarships worth Rs 5 lakh, which were raised by voluntary organisation, Help the Blind Foundation, were distributed.

Delhi HC seeks response of Centre, RBI on the petition by a lawyer

The Delhi High Court on Monday sought the response of the Centre and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on a plea which claimed that banking and financial services were not accessible for the visually impaired.

A Bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice C. Hari Shankar issued notice to the Ministries of Social Justice, Finance and the RBI on the plea by a visually impaired lawyer.

Visually impaired cricketers to get exclusive sports ground in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Visually impaired cricketers are likely to get a dedicated sports training complex that will enable them to develop into professional players, the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) has said.

CABI has approached the Karnataka government with a request to allot 25 acres of land to set up a sports complex with a training ground, gymnasium and swimming pool, and has received a positive response, Mahantesh G K, President, CABI and head of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, told media persons in Bengaluru on Monday.

New Delhi, Jan 20 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Monday sought response of the Centre and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on a PIL claiming that banking and financial services are not accessible for the visually impaired.

sometimes begrudgingly cast an eye over my blog’s archives, trying to pinpoint what posts shaped this online space into what it is today. I went as far back as January 2017 the other day and sitting there, at the beginning of the month, was an open letter I addressed to my vision impairment. I reluctantly clicked ‘read’, unsure of what words would greet me on the following page. Yes, I was right, I had every reason to cringe. Mind you,I might do exactly the same when looking back at this in 2023. 

Smartphones given to 1,000 visually impaired

The smart phones have many disabled friendly applications installed in them. The phones are expected to improve the quality of life of the visually impaired people.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of the ‘Kazhcha project’ of the Kerala State Handicapped Persons Welfare Corporation, 1,000 smart phones were distributed here on Wednesday to select visually impaired individuals. The phones were distributed at the inaugural ceremony of the state-level smart phone distribution and two-day training programme to use the phone.

Kerala's hope for 'Insight Project' for the visually impaired reignited with 'Kazcha'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kazhcha project has revived the hopes of Kerala Federation of the Blind (KFB) in reviving the Insight Project to train visually challenged to overcome the daily struggles. Despite being the lone centre for providing training to use smartphones and computers, it was forced to close shop after the social justice department stopped providing funds two years ago.

Consequently, several hundred visually challenged persons lost the opportunity to get training at the  Kunnukuzhy centre here.

Some important news for visually impaired students studying in CBSE schools. The CBSE Board has announced a series of moves to make mainstream education more accessible for them.

From 2020, students with visual impairments can use magnifying glasses and portable video magnifiers during their Class 10 exams.
