Organising eye camps
The National Programme for Control of Blindness of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare provides assistance to organisations that want to organise eye camps.
Objectives
- Educating people in methods of prevention of eye diseases and proper care of the eyes in order to ensure better and lasting eye-sight.
- Providing medical and surgical treatment for the prevention and control of eye diseases including Cataract Operations.
Criteria for eligibility
Besides the Central/State/District/mobile units and private charitable hospitals/nursings homes, the following type of voluntary organisations are eligible:
- Lions Club
- Rotary Club
- Zila Parishads
- Gram Panchayats
- Others
Pattern of assistance
Financial assistance from the Government is admissible only for such eye camps as organised in accordance with the guidelines laid down for the purpose and with the prior permission of the competent authority. In the camps the treatments of patients, including surgery, shall be free of cost.
The assistance under this scheme shall be offered in respect of the eye camps conducted in rural areas, towns with population not exceeding one lakh and in Metropolitan slums.
Procedure for application
The Voluntary Organisations shall apply for assistance on the prescribed proforma duly certified by the Ophthalmic Surgeon to the Chief Medical Officer of the District. The Social/Voluntary Organisation should certify that for the purpose of this camp for which financial assistance from the Government is being claimed, treatment of patients, including surgery was done free of cost, and no financial assistance has been obtained or will be obtained from any other national or international agency.
