Facilities and concessions in Nagaland

1. Concerned officer

The Director of Social Security & Welfare,
Department of Social Welfare,
Government of Nagaland,

2. Reservation in Government job

The State Government has decided to grant concession to physically disabled persons for the job in Public Service and Public Undertakings such as relaxation of maximum age limit by 5 years and educational qualifications wherever possible for such persons and also to give preference to PH persons. (Order no. AR-8/27/76 Kohima, dated 10-8-77)

3. Relaxation in upper-age limit

The upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for disabled persons for applying in Government jobs.

4. Scholarship / Stipend

The State Government awards scholarship to the physically disabled students from Class I to Class VIII. The details are as follows :

Class I to IV - Rupees 35
Class V to VIII - Rupees 50

5. Disability pension / Social security pension

Handicapped persons get Rupees 60 per month as disability pension.

6. Bus concession / Rail concession

Free bus travel facility to PH persons. Blinds with escorts also get free transport facility in State Transport Buses.

7. Assistance for self-employment

Under this scheme financial assistance is given to the blind and physically disabled persons to start small scale industries and other productive self-employment programmes.

8. Financial assistance

Under this scheme of financial assistance an amount of Rupees 100 is given to blind, invalid and bed ridden persons.

9. Assistance for purchase of aids and appliances

Under this scheme free prosthetic aids are provided to the disabled. For details, please contact Director, Social Welfare Department.

10. Other concessions

  • Stipend for learning typewriting: Under this scheme grant is given to the disabled persons for undergoing training in typewriting.
  • Home for the disabled: Under this scheme a home for the aged disabled who do not have any relative to support was proposed to be set up.
