Teacher sensitisation workshops initiated

last modified 2011-03-08 07:42PM

Score Foundation has started workshops with teachers of mainstream schools with the aim of sensitising them about visual disability. The initiative was kicked off in 2004, with a workshop being conducted at Delhi Public School, D.L.F. The most recent one was organised on May 14, 2005, at Apeejay School, Pitampura.

Principals, teachers and students have responded very well to the initiative. Delhi Public School, in fact, has taken positive steps to carry forward the learning of the workshops. It has hired a blind teacher to teach Braille and music. Two blind children have also been admitted to the School, and the management is taking steps to see that they are included in all activities, including sports.

This is only the beginning of a series of workshops planne4d for the teachers of government and private schools. The intent is to make this initiative a country-wide effort.

Schools interested in having such workshops organised should contact: Editor, beyond the I, Project Eyeway, Score Foundation, 125-B, Shahpur Jat, New Delhi 110 049. E-mail: content@eyeway.org; Phone: 91 11 2649 4582; Fax: 91 11 2649 4581.
