Facilities and concessions in Sikkim

2. Reservation in Government jobs

In Gr.'C' & 'D' posts under the Government, reservation are provided in direct recruitment for physically disabled persons as indicated below:

3. Scholarship / Stipend

The State Government awards scholarship to the disabled students at the following rate:

(Rupees 300 per month is given to those disabled students who is studying in special school. In addition, Rupees 500p.a. is also given to the students for uniform).

4. Disability pension / Social security pension

Completely helpless disabled whose age is above 40 years is given Rupees 100 per month Blind persons also get Rupees 100 per month

5. Conveyance allowance

Blind and Orthopaedically Handicapped employees of State Government and PSUs are entitled to get Rupees 50 per month (@ 10% of the basic) subject to Rupees 50 maximum as conveyance allowance.

6. Bus concession

Free travel facility to the blind is available in the state owned buses.

7. Assistance for self-employment

Handicapped persons get assistance for self-employment.

8. Assistance for purchase of aids and appliances

Disabled get free of cost Prosthetic equipment / Hearing Aid / Spectacles / Special Shoes / Crutches / Walking Sticks free of cost. Patients are sent for fitment of Artificial Limbs and Prosthetics to Jaipur.

9. Other concessions / facilities

Vocational training: Training in cane and bamboo work is given to disabled person in sheltered workshop at Jorethang. Attempts for offering them jobs makes their rehabilitation.
