This is an in-house training programme specially designed to train ophthalmic paramedical staff to cater to the needs of Aravind Eye Hospitals and is recognised by the Joint Review Council (JRC) and Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).

The curriculum involves both classroom sessions and hands-on practice. Refraction, as well as management of the operation theatre, wards, and outpatient services, are covered in the course. The medium of instruction is Tamil.

Eligibility: Open only to girls in south Tamil Nadu who have passed the 12th standard. Proficiency in Tamil is essential.

Certificate Course In Clinical and Supervisory Skills Development In Ophthalmic Paramedical Personnel

The course is offered in collaboration with IAPB (International Agency for Prevention of Blindness) The overall aim is to enhance clinical and supervisory skills to improve the effectiveness of the paramedics' services. The broad areas covered are operation theatre and ward, outpatient and refraction. The training is conducted twice a year (Starting on the 1st of April and November of each year).

Eligibility: Higher Secondary or equivalent; Paramedics with atleast 8-10 months experience in outpatient, operation theatre,ward and refraction activities, Age maximum 40 years, minimum experience of 3 years

Duration: Three months

Number of Seats: 10

Post Graduate Diploma in Opthalmic Assistance

The objective of this course is to provide high quality clinical ophthalmic assistance to ophthalmologists. The broad areas covered in this course are basic sciences, microbiology, common diseases of the eye, operation theatre and ward procedures, and individual development.

Eligibility: Any Graduate from Madurai Kamaraj University or any other university recognized by the U.G.C. Preference will be given to science graduates and sponsored candidates. A working knowledge of basic English is required.

Duration: Two Years (Includes one year internship period with stipend)

Post Graduate Diploma in Optometry

The objective of this course is to enable students to accurately assess refractive errors of the patient, prescribe spectacles and also to perform ophthalmic diagnostic procedures. The broad areas covered are basic sciences, microbiology, common diseases of the eye, optics and refraction.

Eligibility: Any Graduate from Madurai Kamaraj University or any other university recognized by the U.G.C. Preference will be given to science graduates and sponsored candidates. A working knowledge of basic English is required.

Short Term Course in Optical Dispensing

The objective of this course is to develop skills and knowledge in opticianary for quality vision care services. The broad areas covered are the principles and systems of optical dispensing, optical system and refractive states of the eye, opticianary equipments and instruments, lens and frame purchase and inventory management.

Eligibility: Pass in Higher Secondary Exam, working knowledge in basic English

Duration: Three months
