P.G. Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation – Planning and Management

Eligibility: A graduate of Bangalore University or any other recognised University in India in any discipline (preferably in Life Sciences) or a graduate in any discipline of Rehabilitation Science – a Doctor, Rehabilitation Nurse, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Audiologist, Psychologist, Social Worker, Special Educator, Prosthetic & Orthotic Engineer, Vocational Counsellor and any student pursuing any Master’s Degree.

General conditions

  • Completed 21 years of age as on 31. 12. 2003
  • Working knowledge of computers desirable
  • Under the Dual System anyone enrolled in any other Master’s/ Post Graduate programme is eligible.

Duration: One year; Students enrolling for the programme should complete all the modules in four successive annual examinations including fieldwork and practicals from the date of enrollment. There will be a final examination at the end of the course. However, the failed candidates have to appear again by paying the prescribed examination fee. Students completing the entire course successfully will be eligible for the award of P.G. Diploma.

Course Content: This diploma is offered by the Bangalore University, Directorate of Correspondence Courses and Distance Education and Department of Psychology with technical cooperation from CBR Network (South Asia). The aim of this course is to train an individual to be an expert in Community Based Rehabilitation for the restoration of the physical, psychological, social, vocational and educational potentials of a disabled person to the best of his/her abilities, with the primary objective of social inclusion.

Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities

Eligibility:

a) A pass in 10+2 or equivalent examination
b) Anyone pursuing any undergraduate degree in a recognised University
c) Parents, Teachers, Nurses, Health workers, CBR workers, Special
Teachers fulfilling (a) or (b) as above.

General conditions:

  • Completed 18 years of age as on 31. 12. 2003
  • Working knowledge of computers desirable
  • Under the Dual System anyone enrolled in any other Undergraduate programme is eligible.

Duration: One Year

Course content: A vast majority of persons with disability live in rural areas. The magnitude of the problem of disability and its impact is very severe on the individual, family and the community. There is a need for grassroots workers to work at the community level. The Diploma in CBR aims to meet this need in the society.

Certificate Course on, ‘Indian Portage on early childhood development’

Eligibility: No formal educational qualification is required. Any one interested in the disability sector /NGO sector can enroll for these certificate modules.

General conditions:

  • Completed 18 years of age as on 31. 12. 2003
  • Working knowledge of computers desirable
  • Under the Dual System anyone enrolled in any other Undergraduate/PostGraduate programme is eligible.

Duration: One Month

Course content: This course enables the students to understand global policies and national commitments on protection of rights of children and principles of holistic child development, developing low cost developmental aids materials for early intervention with children with delays in development. The primary aim of these modules is capacity building. Any one interested in the disability sector/NGO sector can take these additional modules.

Course material: Students will receive self learning CDs and printed study material available either in Kannada, Hindi or English. Indian Portage material in other Indian languages can be obtained on request.

Medium of instruction: English is the medium of instruction.

Fees: Rs. 1,250 (Rupees Twelve hundred and fifty only, INR)

Eligibility: No formal educational qualification is required. Any one interested in the disability sector /NGO sector can enroll for these certificate modules.

  • Under the Dual System anyone enrolled in any other Undergraduate/PostGraduate programme is eligible.

Managing inclusive classroom/schools/ development, developing low cost learning materials for inclusive schools. The primary aim of these modules is capacity building.   • Under the Dual System anyone enrolled in any other Undergraduate/PostGraduate programme is eligible.

Course content: This course enables the students to understand global policies and national commitments on Poverty Alleviation and the role of NGO’s, registration of Non Profit Organisations, Trusts and Societies, Financial Management of NGO’s, FCRA regulations, Fund raising, Planning tools for management of NGO’s. The primary aim of these modules is capacity building. Any one interested in the disability sector/NGO sector can take these additional modules.

Course material: Students will receive self learning CDs and printed study material available either in Kannada, Hindi or English. Indian Portage material in other Indian languages can be obtained on request.

CBR Workers Training Programme (C/o Thirumurthy Rural Development Centre, SRMAB, Karnataka)

Eligibility: Doctors, paramedical team, supervisors, coordinators, care givers, field level workers, volunteers and person interested to work in the field of community based rehabilitation.

Duration: Four months
