in the area of disability (Indira Gandhi National Open University) B.Ed Special Education through Distance Mode Programme (B.Ed-SEDE) Course content: This is being offered jointly by MPBOU (Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University), Bhopal and RCI, New Delhi. The programme will educate and train professional to enable them to imbibe knowledge, understanding attitude and skill to impart education effectively to disabled. Eligibility: A Bachelor's degree from any recognised university; and fulfill any of the following conditions: served a standard organisation for at least 2 years in any disability area; be a parent of disabled child/children; be a disabled person; possess a Diploma in Special Education of RCI; undergone Bridge Course of RCI. completed RCI-MPBOU Foundation Course (FC-SEDE). Duration: Minimum 18 months, maximum 38 months; Course commences May 1 of each year. For more information please visit the rci site Post-graduate Professional Diploma course in Special Education Distance Education Programme (PGPD-SEDE) Course content: The course aims to develop professional competencies to educate disabled learners. The objective of the course is to develop competencies for selection and organisation of learning experiences, to know and understand various methods and approaches of organising learning experiences of disabled learners in disability area for inclusive/ integrated/ special education set up and to know, understand and develop the ability to manage a special school. Eligibility: A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Degree from any recognised University with at least two years of teaching experience in a school. Admission will be based on length of service and qualifications. On this basis, a merit list will be prepared and admissions made accordingly. Duration: Minimum nine months and maximum 18 months. Academic session is from June to November and January to June. For more information, please visit the rci site Foundation Course on Education of Children with Disabilities Course content: The course aims to build competency in assisting students with disabilities in understanding those subjects which they cannot readily comprehend in regular classroom; in teaching sign language or total communication to the hearing impaired children and braille and low-vision aids to visually impaired children, etc. Eligibility: Any in-service teacher, at any level. Duration: Three months including three weeks of face-to-face contact programme in two phases. Contact programme will be organised at the study centre. First contact programme of two weeks (80 hours) just after registration for admission. in the area of disability Course content: It’s running on a pilot basis. Each package comprises print material, audio and video programmes, face-to-face academic counselling, hands-on training component. This is provided in English and Hindi medium as well as in regional languages, in a phased manner, from January, 2004, through selected N.G.O.s working in the field of disability. These packages are being offered in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Council of India. This is an orientation and sensitisation package. Besides specifically enabling the parents and community workers to provide stimulation and training to disabled persons persons during childhood and later years within the home, school and the community setting, the packages also aim to bring about a positive attitudinal change in the society towards the differently-abled, so as to provide them a congenial, nurturant and stimulating environment to live in. The course is being run at the Blind Relief, NAB Delhi. Eligibility: Parents and family members of persons with disabilities as well as community workers working with the differently-abled.
