Mitra Jyothi provides integrated development services to the disabled, especially the visually disabled. Audio Cassette (or) Talking Book Library: At present they have more than 21,000 educational and general cassettes with 787 members. More than 13 institutions are covered in this. Braille Transcription Centre: This Centre was initiated with the purpose of producing academic books in Braille. The need for Braille books is that blind students have a difficulty in remembering the spelling. So, in the primary level it is very important to give them books in Braille to help them improve the vocabulary and make a good foundation. Independent living skills: Home Management training for the women with visual impairment. Launched in June 1997, this free residential course aims to impart, to women with visual impairment, various skills required for independent living. The duration of this course is for four months. Mobility and Orientation: Job Placement Service: A job placement service in Karnataka has been able to place 327 candidates with disability, successfully in different corporate sectors all over Karnataka. At present 1093 candidates are registered with them for job. They have designed a form for registration of the candidates where all the details of candidates are taken down like – personal details, disability details, experience, educational qualification etc. Similarly a data bank of Employees with 450 prospective employers are in the list. Basic Computer Training: A basic computer programme has been started for visually Impaired. Skills for the following activities are also provided: Home Management, Personal Grooming, Craft, Stitching and Knitting, Physical Fitness/ Self Defence, Legal Awareness, Women’s health and hygiene.
