Assistance for blind sportspersons
A number of Indian organisations are in the fray, helping blind sportspersons realise their potential.
Besides the IBSA [see related story], there are various federations and associations which help visually impaired persons pursue the sport of their choice, develop it and enjoy the game.
The National Capital Visually Impaired Sports Association (NCVISA) is also a non-profit community association comprising blind, visually impaired and sighted members in the National Capital Region. It's mission is to nurture motivation, socialisation, self-confidence and achievement through athletic competition and recreational activities.
The All India Chess Federation for the Blind, with its headquarters in Mumbai, organises state and national level chess tournaments for blind and visually impaired players at regular intervals. Interested persons can contact Vinay Shetty, Advisor, AICFB, at A/101, Valmiki Apartments, Sundar Nagar, Kalina, Santacruz (East), Mumbai 400 098.
