Visually impaired people in India are at the helm of affairs in the private sector, are running NGOs, are fulfilling various roles, are successfully managing companies – they occupy positions of trust, accountability and responsibility everywhere. That is, everywhere but the government sector.
The government hesitates to employ its blind citizens in category A and B jobs. The government cannot even employ those who fulfill its own criteria. Take the example of Ravi Arora. It is a shame that he had to fight a legal battle with the Government of India, after passing the IAS exams, to get the job which was already his!
If visually impaired persons can perform competently in all walks of life, then why not in the government sector? If they can carve successful careers in private sector jobs which are the equivalent of Category A and B government sector jobs, then why are they not given the opportunity to work in Category A and B jobs in the government sector itself?
