Low-cost reading aid
Abhivardhak,
a low vision reading device, an eyeway product, is a low-cost scanner which
will facilitate reading for people with low vision. It is the brainchild of
a young architect designer, Sonali Mehta, who felt the need to evolve low cost
and effective optical aids to serve the Indian market. The cost of the device
is approximately one-tenth of other such devices available. This portable, compact
and lightweight palm-held reading device not only maintains the independence
of a visually impaired person but also accentuates their reading potential.
The device can be attached to any existing TV screen or a computer monitor. In the case of a computer monitor, all one needs is a T.V. card.
