BlindCycle Tour
2005/06
Sebastian Burger and Susanne Kammer, two cyclists from Germany, are embarking on a nine-month cycling tour from Germany, covering Singapore, India, and several other countries. They will be using tandem bikes and hope to have at least two blind people cycling along with them at any point of time. The back seat of one tandem-bike shall be given to several blind persons, if possible living in the particular countries the BlindCycle Team passes through. In case of language problems a fourth translating person can be carried, too. It could also be that up to two western blind people speaking one of our languages join. Although some blind people are accompanying them from Europe upto some destinations, they prefer to cycle with local blind people whenever possible.
They will be reaching Delhi on December 2 and will be in India between December 2, 2005 and January 15, 2006, cycling from Delhi to Kolkata, before crossing over to Bangladesh. Between Delhi and Kolkata, they will be passing through Ludhiana, Bulandshahr, Budaun, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Gaya, and Asansol.
This Tour can be seen as a sportive event as well as a communication project that helps to integrate disabled persons. Plus the fact that this kind of bicycle adventures usually provide lots of new experiences, interesting perceptions and, above all, the feeling of freedom.
Between July 2005 and March 2006 the team wants to cross Germany, Austria, Hungary, Rumania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. The costs such as food and transportation for the poor blind people in those countries will be covered by sponsors such as bicycle and outdoor firms and also by clubs such as ‘Rotary’. Western, blind interested people have to pay a fee of 150 Euros plus the cost of their flights and food themselves.
For any person participating we make everything available that is necessary to cycle and live outdoor – tent, cloth, etc. This action is under patronage of Christophel Blind Mission Germany.
If you are interested in cycling through some of the stretches close to where you live, please contact Sebastian at sebastianburger@web.de directly.
