Worksplace adaptions
Some changes that will go a long way in making the working environment in B.P.O.s friendly for visually impaired and blind employees:
- Braille markings on the keypads.
- Screen-reading software such as JAWS, or minor accessibility modifications to software for compatibility with JAWS.
- For employees with low vision, Windows 2K or XP with magnifier installed.
- Training material in Braille, audio tapes or large font.
- Digitised training, operations and process manuals.
- Refreshable Braille display.
- Proper signage to indicate Exit, Wash room, Canteen, etc
- Being careful about entrances and carpets; having neat edges on all public spaces and lifts.
- Rooms and corridors to be well-lit and have uniform lighting.
- Tactile flooring to guide visually impaired employees.
- The most important thing -- good review mechanisms to ensure that employees are able to realise their full potential. Continuous re-evaluation of adaptations is a 'must'.
