C.P.W.D. guidelines

The guidelines prepared by the Central Public Works Department (C.P.W.D.) for accessible design cover different disabilities and make recommendations for different types of built structures. Given here are some important design features pertaining to visual impairments:

• Use of guiding blocks for persons with impaired vision to guide them within the buildings and facilities and outside the building.
• Installation of information board in Braille.
• Installation of audible signages (announcements)
• Removal of any protruding objects and sufficient walking space for safe walking.
• Texture change in walkways adjacent to seating will be desirable for blind persons.
• Use of contrasting colour arrangements for persons with limited vision.
